Krill are crustaceans like shrimp that live all throughout the world. They are an orang- ish pink color and translucent. They have a lifespan of around five years in the wild. They spend their lives living in a huge swarm that is dense and can consist of as many as 30,000 krill. There are about 90 species of krill, ranging in size from 1cm to 14cm long. They weigh up to 0.035 oz or 1g. Krill have a hard exoskeleton otherwise known as shell, which is separated into three segments: the cephalon, thorax, and abdomen and are known for having joined legs. They also provide an important source of food for marine life animals.

Habitat:

Krill can live in warm waters like the Great Barrier Reef, which range from 23 to 29 degrees Celsius or cold waters like the Arctic Ocean that range from -10 to -50 degrees Celsius. Their estimated numbers range from 125 million tons to 6 billion tons in the waters around Antarctica.

Predator adaptations:

Krill are herbivores that feed off of phytoplankton plants found on the ocean's surface. Krill pull the phytoplankton out of the surface using their specialized legs called "perepods." Krill make a net with their perepods through which they scoop up water and trap phytoplankton to eat.
